A simple review of the Quest 3 vs. Quest 2

A place to discuss the Meta/Oculus Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro Lots of reviews are now out for the Quest 3. This is my own review of the Quest 3 comparing it with the Quest 2: TL;DR: If you own a Quest 2 and still use it (rather than letting it collect dust on the shelf), it’s absolutely worth the $500 for the Quest 3. I find that I’m actually using the Q3 for general purpose daily tasks like web browsing and watching netflix, youtube, etc. On the other hand, if you don’t use your Quest 2 at all, you might find better uses for that $500. CPU: The Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 processor they’re using is noticeably faster. Games that previously had areas where the FPS dropped are now smooth as butter. Scrolling through ad-infested websites doesn’t cause the entire headset to lag anymore. That said, you won’t be running games with visual fidelity approaching Starfield or Cyberpunk 2077. Comparing the XR2 G2 to, say, PCVR w/ an RTX 4080 is like comparing the Nintendo Switch with an XBOX Series X. Operating System: The OS still feels minimalist; like a gutted version of Android or iOS designed strictly for gaming (and selling games to you). However, Meta has been gradually improving the OS and adding native support for things like image and video viewing. You can now download WebM videos from the internet and then open them from the file viewer directly. Better yet, you can tell the file viewer how to display those videos if they’re 180/360 VR or stereoscopic. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support stereoscopic images and it doesn’t have support for wide-format stereoscopic videos, so those appear stretched horizontally. Display: The Q3’s image quality is better in every way than the Q2’s. The new pancake optics, adjustable IPD and eye-to-screen distance, higher resolution display, anti-aliasing, and better pixel configuration all combine to make it feel like it’s almost twice the resolution of the Quest 2. It’s good enough that I can browse reddit for over an hour without any eye strain. However, the LCD displays don’t have a uniform brightness and it’s very visible on the meta loading screen. Glare from bright objects in a dark environment is still just as bad as it was on the older fresnel lenses. Optics: The new pancake optics are a vast improvement. Everything is crystal clear no matter where the headset is positioned on your face, and chromatic aberration is completely gone. The increased field of view makes a far bigger difference than I thought it would, and going back to the Q2 feels claustrophobic. Tracking: The 120Hz display and faster tracking make a much bigger difference than I thought they would, especially in fast-paced games like Beat Saber. Virtual objects that are being displayed in passthrough mode no longer jitter slightly as you move your head. Instead, they feel rock solid, like they’re actually attached to the floor/walls. If the external camera feed was any better, it would be easy to forget that the virtual objects aren’t real. The controllers are just as good as the Quest 2s, and don’t have a bulky ring around them anymore. Cameras: The external cameras are far better than the Quest 2, and they’re in color now. I can actually read some of the text on my phone through the passthrough cameras. But I still feel that it’s not quite good enough. They need to be probably twice the megapixel count that they currently are in order to match the rendered 3D object resolution and allow reading smaller text on a phone display. The image distortion where it stitches the camera feeds together is still nauseating, and passthrough still ignores TOF/LIDAR depth data (meaning you can move your hand in front of a 3D object and the 3D object still obscures your hand). Sound: The speakers more precisely direct sound into the ear; you don’t need the volume up quite as high to clearly hear it, so it’s not as loud to people around you. It still has a headphone jack in case you prefer to use headphones for privacy or sound quality. Weight: The weight distribution is slightly different due to the thinner profile, but it’s not actually any lighter than the Quest 2. Long term use causes about the same level of discomfort, both with the OEM strap and the Elite Strap. My max usage time is about 1.5 hours before it becomes physically painful to use. I’m currently waiting on the BoboVR M3 halo strap to arrive and will see if that helps. PCVR: Meta hasn’t made any substantial improvements in PCVR and the old oculus PC app apparently doesn’t know what a Quest 3 is (it thinks that it’s a Rift). The air link is still prone to crashing. The link cable from the Quest 2 still works fine though.

To people that consider buying Quest Pro for mixed reality purposes

**The Oculus subreddit, a place for Oculus fans to discuss VR.** Don’t. If you got hooked by promising passthrough quality on promo materials and reviews, you will be very disappointed. The vision is very grainy and noisy, even in well lit room. It is not suited for business/industrial environments. Until they somehow improve it with software update, it is not worth it. This is not headset for “pro” – this is false advertisement.

[reality quest] one of the best thing about this manhwa is how the artists emphasize how dangerous kicking is, I fell in love to this series ngl, when Dowan first drop a falcon kick, that wasy nasty, even the current arc is all about kicking

The community to discuss anything manhwa (Korean comics)! Yes, I read GOH, where the MC fights using kicks mainly But Reality quest just feels different and does something better imho
