Best Setup for VR Cycling?

A community to share virtual reality fitness and wellness related media, experiences, and support. So far I’ve only used my Oculus Quest 2 for gaming, but I’m interested in putting it to use with a bike at home for an immersive workout. Based on some initial research, it appears that the technology required to do this is quickly maturing and hackier DIY setups are no longer necessary. That said, I’m willing to invest the time and resources needed to find a solution that suits my needs. Note that I’m a complete novice when it comes to all things both VR and cycling, so please correct anything I’ve misstated. I read through quite a few other threads on this topic but didn’t see anything comprehensive that compares and contrasts the available options. From what I gather, there are two approaches I can take: Purchase a stationary bike Purchase a trainer for use with my existing bicycle Then, with both options, I can choose to purchase a “smart” product with the required sensors built-in, or I can buy a separate speed and cadence sensor (such as theMagene S3+) that tends to be compatible with a wide variety of products. Once I have the hardware, I’ll need to decide on the software to run through the Quest 2 headset. It sounds likeZwift,VZfit, andHOLOFITare three of the more popular options. Are there others I should be considering from a software standpoint? There are a couple of features of interest to me that may preclude certain configurations. First, I definitely like the idea of dynamic resistance that can be controlled by the app I’m running (ie. going uphill in-game results in increased resistance). I think I’ve seen that this feature is available in specific products under both aforementioned categories. Second, and I suppose this one is less important to me, is steering. Is it possible to steer the bike with any such solutions? If so, I could envision connecting the bike to other, non-fitness-related, apps such as racing games. But I’m not sure if this is even possible. Anything else I should be considering? I was thinking I could do this for under $1K. But I’d be willing to spend $2K or more for something that checked all of those boxes. I appreciate any advice and insights from those of you with experience in this area.
