Feasibility of AR/VR contact lenses

The official Subreddit for the Isaac Arthur YouTube channel. This Sub focuses on discussing his videos and exploring concepts in science with an emphasis on futurism, space exploration, along with a healthy dose of science fiction. Isaac has mentioned this and we’ve seen it in sci-fi a few times. What is the actual feasibility of contact lenses that provide not just a HUD but a full AR and VR experience? A whole headset resting on your eyes. I’m personally a little skeptical to be honest. Even if we offload the processing to a different device, such as a wrist-worn computer for example, we still have power and sensory data issues. The contact lenses need to see as you see to get good augmented reality. On top of that we also have power transmission issues, how to power it. Can we do all that and make it breathable and comfortable to wear? Perhaps we can cheat with a larger device or subdermal implant that eye-tracks and projects images to your eye? Here is the state of where the technology is at as of last year:Mojo Vision’s Smart Contact Lens What are some clever engineering solutions to give someone a full AR/VR immersionwithouta headset or optic-nerve BCI implants?
