A place to discuss any and all things Virtual Reality. I do some 3D printing and modelling using fusion360. The software is best suited to mechanical shapes. Yes, it can do smooth flowing curves, but it’s way easier to make cubes and cylinders. Anyway, I had a project that called for a more natural design, and thought that VR might be the way to go. After a little research, I went with adobe medium. It’s free – at least on the oculus marketplace. It has a built in tutorial video that covers a fair amount of features. The video plays in the workspace while you use the tools. I was up and running in about ten minutes. All this is to say that once I got the hang of it, I was absolutely in a flow state. Time just went. Next thing I know, my headset’s battery is dying and I’m plugging it in to finish my model. The broader point is, I definitely slept on the creative opportunities that are presented in the VR space. If you have any desire to create 3D digital objects, you’ve got to give this a go.
