What’s up with headset reviews?

A place to discuss any and all things Virtual Reality. So like many vr users without a pc, I’ve been on the fence between buying either a Quest 3 or a psvr2. However, it seems almost impossible to find balanced reviews. This is what I read about the psvr2 at launch: “Amazing OLED, eye tracking makes everything look clear, advanced headset and controller haptics, we gotta find a way to hook this thing up to a pc because it’s the best headset everr. Unless you like playing baby mobile games, get a PSVR2. Best visuals ever!” After: “Crummy wire, blurry lenses, tracking sucks, unusable garbage. Worst visuals ever.” I’ve noticed the same thing with other headsets releasing. Quest 2 opinions before: “Amazing headset for the price, great standalone and wireless pcvr!” After: “Blurry lenses, bad blacks, total garbage which ruins all of VR gaming with its mobile ports.” And now Quest 3 is the hot new thing on the market so I’m reading mostly praise, but I’m not sure how much of this is the same exaggerated hype I’ve seen with every other headset releasing. The battery life gets suprisingly little mention and I wonder if it’s truly worth its price being 2x as expensive as its predecessor. It could be. I really don’t know. I guess I just want to rant about how difficult it is to make a good choice as a consumer, when you’ve got VR youtubers praising every product to high heaven no matter whether it’s actually good or bad, and people on reddit praising every new headset as God’s gift to mankind, only to shit on it as unusable garbage 3 months later.
